European DNA from a Geographer’s Perspective

Back in the early 2000’s, when DNA studies for population studies were still in their infancy and there were still no companies offering DNA analysis and ancestry interpretation online, I studied the topic of DNA analysis and its use for ethnographic studies.

Based on all the data I could find over Europe and adjacent parts of Asia and Africa, analyzed on the level of individual mutations, I made principal component analyses, maps, and more, and published this PDF book in 2005. Although much has happened later, I believe it is a good introduction for the amateurs, and it gives some advice from a geographer’s perspective to the DNA researchers, regarding how to use data in the optimal way for geographical analysis. Unfortunately it is only in Swedish, but there are now translators available that are, if not perfect, at least mostly acceptable.
