About Sedimeter
Question Answer
How do I interphase the Sedimeter with my measurement system? The Sedimeter uses RS232 serial communication, a built-in logger, and its own battery. The data can be read out in real-time, or stored for later retrieval during many months.
How do I use the data files from the logger? The files are in a raw binary format, one byte per value, 44 values per measurement. These binary data are downloaded to the computer, where they can be imported, analyzed, and exported as ASCII data by the SediMeter software.
Is there a simpler solution coming? A state of the art application in LabVIEW is planned, a 'Sedimeter Virtual Instrument'. Do let us know if you are interested in it, as the development schedule depends on demand.
About SediSond
Question Answer
What is the SediSond? The SediSond is a sond that can be used for determining some key sediment parameters without taking a sediment core. It is intended for gas-charged sediments, such as in many tropical water reservoirs, but it may also be used for certain types of ground truthing for sub-bottom profiling.
What does the SediSond consist of? The SediSond uses a LabVIEW Virtual Instrument front end, and thus a field computer and an A/D-card are integral parts of the instrument, together with the sond and the cable.
How do I use the raw data files? The raw files can be fed back to the virtual instrument, so that the data can be inspected graphically any number of times.
How does it work? Have you pushed down a metal rod through sediments, and felt the sediment properties thorugh the rod? This instrument does the same, but you must interpret the signal on a graphical display instead of through our fingers. An advantage is of course that you have tangible proof to put in a report. On the other hand, it requires the presence of a computer. It can bring significant benefits to an elite group of users.
Is it easy to use? Yes. You just let the rod fall to the bottom while the instrument records the data. On the display you will clearly see when it hits the bottom, and when it hits harder layers within the bottom sediments. The accelerometer data are presented both in the time domain, and in the depth domain. You can move a cursor and measure precisely how thick the sediment pack is, or where a sand layer is located.
About SediPing
Question Answer
What is the SediPing? The SediPing is a 'Virtual Instrument', a specialized software that together with some hardware creates the equivalent of a physical instrument. In the case of SediPing, it is a virtual digital echo-sounder, and at the same time a virtual "pinger", i.e., sub-bottom profiler. It requires an external sound source, transceiver (transmitter plus receiver), and amplifier.
When will the SediPing be commercially available? Erlingsson Sub-Aquatic Surveys has used the SediPing for years in consulting jobs, connected to an Atlas Monograph 33 kHz echosounder. Having full control over the signal processing has turned out to be "king" in some situations where others have failed. But it will never be put "in a box", since doing that would require the removal of some of the flexibility that makes it great. As it is now, one has to be an acoustics expert to fully appreciate it. Solutions in a box abound on the market. This is a solution for experts and researchers.
What if I really want it? We can offer a technology transfer project, including education as well as software and hardware. Contact us for a discussion.
About Us
Question Answer
What is "Erlingsson Sub-Aquatic Surveys"? The company was founded by dr Ulf Erlingsson, an Earth Scientist with specialization in under-water geomorphology investigations. The first objective was to commercialize the Sedimeter. Other tasks are to develop new instruments, and offer consultancy and training in the field.
What technical assistance do you offer? We will help you select the optimal system. We can also assist you in setting up the data collection system, integrating it with the appropriate data acquisition hardware and software. It could be a low-cost logger or A/D-card, or a state-of-the-art virtual instrument developed using LabVIEW from National Instruments.
Can you do the measurements as well? If you prefer to out-source the whole investigation, we can help too. By out-sourcing you will know the cost, get rid of the risks, and be able to concentrate on your business. Geomorphological investigations under water is our business, and we have 20 years professional experience doing it - including work done for AB Hydroconsult.

Question Answer
How do I buy from you? Let us know what your application is, what you have in mind, and what your time schedule is. Be specific if possible. We will get back to you as follows:

-The Sedimeter is a stand alone instrument. If that is what you need, you will get a quote.
-The SediSond is an instrument with software, but it also requires computer hardware. We will contact you before giving you a quote that will include both items and services.
-The SediPing is a software to which the necessary hardware is added in cooperation with the client. This is done in the form of a technology transfer project, and we will deal with this as a consulting project rather than a product sale.
